Two Russian women may face jail time in the United States after accidentally driving onto a U.S. military base while searching for a McDonald’s restaurant.

Kristina and Natasha were traveling across the country by car when they decided to stop for food. Their navigation app showed what it claimed was the shortest route, leading them off the main highway.

Instead of reaching a restaurant, they unknowingly entered Camp Pendleton, a U.S. Marine Corps military base in California. Military personnel stopped the vehicle and detained the women immediately.

U.S. authorities say the women are being investigated for unauthorized entry into a restricted military area. Under U.S. law, entering a military installation without permission is a serious offense and can result in criminal charges, including possible imprisonment.

Officials are continuing to review the case to determine the next legal steps.
