US Envoy Recognizes Hezbollah as Legitimate in Lebanon

In a recent interview, US special envoy for Syrian affairs Tom Barrack acknowledged Hezbollah as a legitimate political party within Lebanon’s political structure. He emphasized that this recognition complicates efforts to resolve ongoing tensions between Israel and Lebanon.

Barrack stated that convincing Hezbollah to disarm is the sole responsibility of the Lebanese government, adding that the United States has no plans to exert pressure on the group.

His remarks followed a renewed rejection by Hezbollah’s deputy leader, Naim Qassem, of government attempts to enforce disarmament a key clause of the November ceasefire agreement between Israel and Lebanon.
