Lima, Peru Right-wing candidate Keiko Fujimori is projected to win Peru’s presidential election, holding a narrow lead over far-left challenger Pedro Castillo Sánchez with 90 percent of votes tallied.

Current Vote Count

With nine-tenths of ballots counted, Fujimori holds 50.46 percent of the vote against Sánchez’s 49.55 percent a margin of less than one percentage point, signaling an extremely tight race.

The result has not been officially confirmed, and the remaining 10 percent of votes could still shift the outcome.

Who Is Keiko Fujimori?

Keiko Fujimori is the leader of the right-wing Fuerza Popular party and daughter of former Peruvian President Alberto Fujimori. This marks her third presidential campaign. She represents a pro-market, conservative political platform.

Who Is Her Opponent?

Her rival, far-left candidate R. Sánchez, ran on a platform centered on nationalization of natural resources and sweeping social reforms, drawing strong support from rural and lower-income voters across Peru.

A Nation Divided

The razor-thin margin reflects a deeply polarized Peru, with urban and business communities broadly backing Fujimori while rural regions lean toward the left-wing challenger.

Official results from Peru’s National Elections Jury (JNE) are still pending. Both campaigns are expected to closely monitor the remaining vote count.
