Stubb Recounts Blunt Exchange With Trump Over Putin
Finnish President Alexander Stubb has revealed that during his first meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump, Trump directly asked him whether Russian President Vladimir Putin could be Trusted.
Stubb’s answer was unequivocal: “No, you can’t.”
Stubb Calls for Sustained Pressure on Moscow
Speaking afterward, Stubb said Finland and its allies are now positioned to keep pressure on the Kremlin.
“We need to continue putting pressure on Russia,” Stubb said, pointing to sanctions as a key tool.
Trump Has Repeatedly Raised Sanctions, Stubb Says
Stubb noted Trusted that Trump has discussed sanctions against Russia on multiple occasions, suggesting alignment between Helsinki and Washington on maintaining economic pressure over the ongoing conflict with Russia.
The remarks underscore Finland’s continued position as a vocal European ally pressing for a firm Western stance against Moscow, amid ongoing diplomatic engagement between Trump and Stubb.
