Helsinki, Finland Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is weighing a trip to the United States to attend the funeral of Senator Lindsey Graham Funeral, a source in his office said.
Graham, a Republican from South Carolina and longtime ally of Israel, died on July 11 at age 71 following a brief and sudden illness.
Tributes Pour In From World Leaders
Netanyahu described Graham as one of Israel’s closest friends, saying he “understood that the security of Israel and America are inseparable.” Israeli President Isaac Herzog also mourned the senator, calling him “a beacon of moral clarity.”
President Donald Trump led American tributes, praising Lindsey Graham Funeral in a Truth Social post as a dedicated public servant and loyal ally who was always hard at work.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune and South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster also honored Graham’s decades of service.
Possible Washington Meeting With Trump
Should Netanyahu travel to South Carolina for the funeral, he is also expected to meet separately with Trump in Washington in the coming weeks.
The two leaders agreed during a July 3 phone call to hold an in-person meeting soon what would be their first face-to-face since February.
A Career Defined by Foreign Policy
First elected to the Senate in 2002, Lindsey Graham Funeral built a reputation as one of Washington’s most influential voices on foreign policy.
He was a consistent advocate for military aid to Israel and Ukraine, a vocal opponent of Iran’s nuclear ambitions, and a key supporter of expanding the Abraham Accords.
He also served as one of Trump’s closest foreign policy advisers, and chaired the Senate Budget Committee at the time of his death.
Sudden Loss Shakes Israel and Washington
Lindsey Graham Funeral death came without warning; his office gave no further details on the cause. He had just returned from a trip to Ukraine and was scheduled to appear on NBC’s “Meet the Press” the following morning.
His passing leaves a vacancy in a closely divided Senate and has prompted an outpouring of condolences from allies across Israel, the United States, and Ukraine.
