BERLIN Climate activist Greta Thunberg glued herself to the ground outside the Berlin office of German defence manufacturer Rheinmetall on Monday, joining a protest against arms deliveries to Israel.
Protest Targets Rheinmetall’s Berlin Plans
The 23-year-old Swedish activist joined roughly 40 demonstrators from the group Peacefully Against Genocide near Pariser Platz, close to the Brandenburg Gate.
The protest targeted Rheinmetall’s plans to build a new weapons factory in Berlin, as well as the company’s ongoing arms deliveries to Israel.
Addressing the crowd before police intervened, Thunberg said the group aimed to stop Rheinmetall from arming Israel’s actions in Palestine and Lebanon.
Police Clear Site, No Arrests Made
Around 70 Berlin police officers were deployed to remove the demonstrators. According to reports, the operation was peaceful activists were detached from the asphalt, identified, and issued dispersal orders.
No arrests were made during the operation.
Rheinmetall’s Position
Rheinmetall, one of Europe’s largest arms manufacturers, has seen its stock price rise sharply amid increased defence spending across Europe.
Rheinmetall has yet to comment on the demonstration.
Finnish Angle
The Berlin protest comes as Finland continues its own defence cooperation with Germany, including joint procurement programmes.
Thunberg remains a divisive figure in the Nordic countries, with her activism continuing to draw both praise and criticism across the political spectrum.
Sources at Finland’s Foreign Ministry said they are monitoring the situation but declined to comment further on the Berlin protest.
