Helsinki Star Ella Varis, a senior constable with the Finnish police and a well-known social media personality, has resigned from the force, citing prolonged workplace bullying as the primary reason for her departure.
Resignation Announced on YouTube
Varis announced her decision in early June via her YouTube channel, according to multiple Finnish news outlets. She had served as a senior constable and gained wide recognition for her online presence.
She clarified that her resignation was not linked to allegations of personal immorality, despite unfounded claims circulating on social media. Instead, she attributed her departure to a hostile work environment tied directly to her social media activities.
Allegations of Misogyny and Gaslighting
Star Ella Varis her video, Varis described facing anonymous hate comments, behind-the-back gossip, and attempts by colleagues to undermine her work. Some colleagues, she said, believed her online content was bringing the police force into disrepute.
“There was misogyny, belittling, and the idea that I wasn’t a credible police officer,” Star Ella Varis stated. She also said she experienced gaslighting and was subjected to false reports and complaints intended to force her out of her position.
Known for “Koulu25” Youth Outreach Project
Star Ella Varis was widely recognized within the force for her role in the “Koulu25” project, an initiative aimed at improving legal education and engagement between police and children and young people.
Her social media content reached hundreds of thousands of young viewers, with some videos garnering millions of views, making her one of the more publicly visible officers in the Finnish police force.
Superiors Reportedly Satisfied, But Harassment Continued
According to Varis, her superiors were reportedly satisfied with her work and supportive of her role. Despite this, she said the ongoing harassment from colleagues eventually became unsustainable.
“I hoped for a long time that someone would help me the way I have helped others,” she said in her video statement.
What’s Next for Varis
Varis says she plans to continue her work in social media and content creation under the name “Siviiliella.”
The Southwestern Finland Police Department, her former employer, has not yet issued a public comment on her allegations.
