Belarus opposition leader Statkevich freed after years in prison One of the leading figures of the Belarusian opposition,

and long considered President Alexander Lukashenka’s main rival, Nikolai Statkevich has been released from prison.

The former 2010 Belarusian presidential candidate was held in isolation in a prison for repeat offenders.

He was arrested ahead of the 2020 elections and sentenced to 14 years in prison.
