The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan has summoned the Chargé d’Affaires of the Pakistani Embassy in Kabul to lodge a formal diplomatic protest over alleged violations of Afghan airspace and the bombardment of civilian homes in three eastern provinces.
The move marks a significant escalation in tensions between Kabul and Islamabad.
Afghanistan Lodges Formal Protest Against Pakistan
Pakistan Airstrike launched military strikes inside Afghanistan targeting militant hideouts, an operation Islamabad says was necessary to protect its citizens.
Afghan foreign ministry officials summoned the Pakistani diplomatic representative in Kabul and delivered what they described as a “strong and categorical protest” over military strikes they say targeted civilian residential areas.
The protest focused on reported airstrikes in Kunar, Paktia, and Paktika provinces — all located along Afghanistan’s eastern border with Pakistan.
The Taliban-led government characterized the strikes as a direct violation of Afghan sovereignty and international law.
Civilian Homes Reportedly Targeted in Three Provinces
According to the Islamic Emirate’s foreign ministry, the bombardment affected civilian homes across the three provinces. No casualty figures were immediately confirmed in the official statement.
Kunar, Paktia, and Paktika are border provinces that have historically been flashpoints for cross-border military activity between Afghanistan and Pakistan .
The Afghan government did not provide specific details regarding the date or scale of the alleged strikes in its initial statement.
Diplomatic Tensions Between Kabul and Islamabad
Relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan have been under significant strain in recent years. Islamabad has previously conducted airstrikes inside Afghan territory, citing militant groups operating from Afghan soil as justification.
The Taliban government has consistently rejected Pakistan’s justification for cross-border military operations, calling them violations of Afghan sovereignty.
This latest summoning of the Pakistani Chargé d’Affaires signals that Kabul is escalating its diplomatic response to what it describes as continued Pakistani military incursions.
Pakistan Yet to Respond
As of the time of publication, the Pakistani government had not issued an official response to Afghanistan’s protest.
The Pakistani Embassy in Kabul has also not released a public statement regarding the summoning of its diplomatic representative.
