Federal immigration enforcement operations in Minneapolis, Minnesota have again drawn national attention after a U.S. citizen was fatally shot by a federal agent during a law enforcement operation.
This incident is the second fatal shooting of a U.S. citizen by federal immigration agents in the city this month, according to multiple news reports.
The most recent shooting occurred on Saturday, when a 37-year-old man identified as Alex Pretti, an ICU nurse, was killed by a federal agent during an immigration enforcement action in Minneapolis.
The shooting followed intense protests over an earlier fatal shooting of another resident by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent.
Department of Homeland Security officials have defended the actions of federal agents, saying the shooting happened during “targeted operations.”
However, multiple eyewitness accounts and local leaders, including Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, have publicly questioned the official narrative, saying the fatal use of force may not align with a self-defense claim.
