Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff & Commander of Defence Forces (COAS & CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir held a significant diplomatic meeting with a senior Iranian delegation on June 21, 2026 in Burgenstock, Switzerland.
Iranian Delegation Led by Ghalibaf and Araghchi
The Iranian side was led by two of the country’s most senior officials Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
The presence of both the parliamentary speaker and foreign minister signals the high diplomatic weight Tehran has assigned to this engagement.
Follow-Up to Islamabad MoU Between US and Iran
The Burgenstock meeting represents a technical-level follow-up to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) previously signed in Islamabad between the United States and Iran.
