Russia Launches Massive Attack on Ukrainian Infrastructure
Russia launched a large-scale missile and drone strike against Ukraine’s Energy Grid infrastructure early Monday morning, triggering widespread power outages across six regions. The attack represents one of the most significant assaults on Ukraine’s power grid in recent weeks.
Six Regions Affected Sumy Hit Hardest
The strikes caused electricity disruptions across Sumy, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Zaporizhzhia, Dnipropetrovsk, and Poltava regions.
According to Ukrainian authorities, the situation is most critical in the Sumy region, where damage to energy facilities is severe.
Emergency restoration teams have been deployed across all affected areas. However, repair work remains restricted in several locations due to ongoing security concerns and active conflict conditions.
Energy Consumption Surges as Ukrainians Face Shortages
Ukrainian energy officials reported a 7.4 percent rise in electricity consumption compared to the previous day, recorded as of 9:30 AM local time. Authorities attribute the spike to increased demand during the outages as households and businesses attempt to compensate for lost power.
Authorities Urge Ukrainians to Limit Peak-Hour Usage
Ukraine’s energy operators have issued an urgent public appeal, calling on citizens to adjust their electricity usage patterns to reduce strain on the damaged Energy Grid.
Officials specifically requested that Ukrainians shift heavy Energy Grid consumption including washing machines, dishwashers, and electric heating to the window between 10:00 and 16:00. Residents are further urged to minimize usage during the critical peak period between 16:00 and 23:00.
Restoration Efforts Underway Under Difficult Conditions
Emergency crews from Ukraine’s national energy operator are working to restore power where security conditions permit. No timeline for full restoration has been announced, as the extent of infrastructure damage is still being assessed.
The strikes add further pressure to Ukraine’s already strained power system, which has faced repeated Russian attacks throughout the conflict.
