Downing Street Pushes Back
Downing Street has rejected the accusations. Officials reaffirmed the UK’s commitment to Ukraine’s territorial integrity against Russian aggression while also renewing calls for de-escalation, humanitarian relief, and a sustainable ceasefire in the Middle East.
Government officials maintain the two conflicts are separate and that the UK remains committed to protecting civilian lives in both regions.
Political Backdrop
Starmer’s Farewell announced his resignation as Labour leader and Prime Minister on June 22, 2026, following mounting pressure within his party after poor local election results.
He is set to be succeeded by Andy Burnham, former mayor of Greater Manchester, on July 20.
