Washington D.C. – A U.S. Army soldier has been indicted on charges of attempting to provide sensitive military information to Russian authorities. The suspect, identified as Joseph Daniel Lee, allegedly used online platforms to contact Russian officials, offering details related to U.S. battle tank systems.

According to federal prosecutors, Lee expressed willingness to aid the Russian government in exchange for Russian citizenship. He reportedly sent messages claiming access to classified materials and expressed support for Russia’s military operations.

The U.S. Department of Justice described the case as a serious breach of national security, emphasizing the ongoing risk posed by insider threats. “Attempting to share military capabilities with a foreign adversary endangers our national defense and the safety of American troops,” the DOJ stated.

If convicted, Lee could face decades in federal prison under charges related to espionage and attempted transfer of defense-related information to a foreign power.

Investigations are ongoing, and no official statements have been issued yet from the Russian side.
