Ethel Caterham, a British great-grandmother, marked her 116th birthday on August 21 in Surrey, England. Earlier this year, she was officially recognized as the world’s oldest living person, following the passing of a Brazilian nun who previously held the title.

Born in Hampshire in 1909, Ms. Caterham now resides in a care home in Surrey and has outlived her husband as well as both of her daughters. Milestones like these continue to capture public fascination and admiration around the world.
