Turkiye has moved to completely cut its economic and transport links with Israel, condemning what it calls ongoing atrocities in Gaza.

Speaking at a special parliamentary session on Friday, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced that Israeli planes are now banned from Turkish airspace and Israeli vessels will no longer be allowed to dock in Turkish ports.

“Israel has been carrying out genocide in Gaza for the past two years, disregarding basic humanitarian values before the entire world,” Fidan declared.

This latest step builds on Ankara’s decision in May last year to freeze direct trade with Israel while demanding a permanent ceasefire and unrestricted humanitarian aid to Gaza.

In 2023, trade between the two countries was valued at around $7 billion, but those ties are now fully severed.

Fidan emphasized that the measures mark Turkiye’s firmest stance yet against Tel Aviv since the conflict intensified, underlining Ankara’s growing frustration over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
