A powerful magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck the central Philippines late Tuesday night, leaving widespread devastation in its wake.

According to local authorities, at least 69 people have been confirmed dead and more than 140 injured. The hardest-hit areas include Cebu province, where hospitals are struggling to cope with the influx of patients.

Rescue operations are underway as emergency teams continue to search for survivors trapped under collapsed buildings. Officials have warned that the death toll may rise further as assessments continue.

The Philippine government has mobilized additional resources to the affected areas, while humanitarian agencies are preparing relief efforts for displaced residents.
