Poland Granted Exemption from EU Migration Pact

The European Union has agreed to grant Poland an exemption from the EU migration pact, relieving the country from mandatory refugee relocation quotas.

According to EU officials, the decision follows Warsaw’s continued opposition to the bloc’s migration burden-sharing mechanism.

The exemption means Poland will not be required to host asylum seekers under the new system,

though it will still participate in other aspects of EU border and humanitarian policies.

Polish authorities welcomed the move, calling it a recognition of Poland’s significant role in hosting millions of Ukrainian refugees since 2022.

Analysts say the exemption underscores ongoing divisions within the EU over migration

management and member states’ varying approaches to asylum responsibilities.
