North Korea has launched several short-range ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan, marking its first weapons test in months, according to South Korean and Japanese defense officials.

The timing of the launch is significant, coming just a week before the APEC summit in South Korea, where world leaders including U.S. President Donald Trump are expected to gather.

Officials say the missiles traveled several hundred kilometers before landing in waters outside Japan’s exclusive economic zone. Both Seoul and Tokyo have condemned the launch, calling it a clear violation of UN Security Council resolutions.

Analysts believe the test serves as a political message to demonstrate Pyongyang’s military readiness ahead of renewed diplomatic activity in the region.
