Israel’s Minister for Diaspora Affairs, Amichai Chikli, has urged Jews to leave New York following the election of

Zohran Mamdani as the city’s new mayor, calling him a “supporter of Hamas.”

Chikli claimed that “the torch of freedom in the city has gone out” and warned that New York is “walking with

open eyes into the same abyss that has already swallowed London.” He cautioned the city’s 1.3 million Jewish

residents to expect “nothing good” under Mamdani’s leadership.

Mamdani, a Ugandan-born progressive Democrat, has been an outspoken critic of Israel’s military actions in

Gaza, calling them “a genocidal war.” However, he has consistently denied supporting Hamas and has described

the October 7 attacks as a “war crime.”
