The Polish military has launched its large-scale exercise “Iron Gate 2025”, deploying around 40,000 armed soldiers near the borders with Belarus and Kaliningrad.

The drills, conducted alongside NATO allies, coincide with Zapad 2025, a joint Belarus-Russia military exercise also involving 40,000 troops in Belarus.

Analysts say the parallel timing of both operations highlights the deepening military standoff in Eastern Europe, raising fears of further escalation.

NATO officials are closely monitoring both exercises as tensions along the alliance’s eastern flank continue to rise.

Why Poland’s Iron Gate drills matter for NATO security.
